| | peaceful | ] | I have a tiddlywiki for the house. Dela and I share it. It has, like, doofy love notes and things like "Thankfulness List". And "Rob's hyper-detailed procedure for paying bills." And questions like, "Should we fill the bird feeder all year long?" and "All the things about the house that should be fixed up." Anyway, I had it on a machine around the house, shared over wireless, and that was cool, but required that the machine be on all the time, which is lame and wastes energy. So I put it on my website in a folder. But that's not secure. I mean, anybody who knows what folder to go into can see the list of vitamins I'm taking. So I did some googling and reading about security, but it's all, like, total overkill, I guess. I don't want to spend any time on this. In fact, just writing this post is probably more than this warrants. I think I'll go read a book. (I just got the unabridged journals of Dick Proennocke!!! I rock!!! 475 pages worth!) |

I was just intensely, brutally ill for 5 hours. Apparently, I am not able to process Aleve. Live and learn, I suppose. |

Emergency root canal yesterday. Still very painful. I think another tooth requires the same procedure. |

| Six Week Bender |
[Dec. 27th, 2005|01:11 pm] |
I'm shifting jobs. (again) February 13th, I start the new, high-pressure, mad-cap challenging time. My last day at the current job is December 30. The money should hold out, so I'm looking at 6 weeks of open time. Obviously, a great deal of that time will be spent staring at the baby, changing diapers, giving Dela a break and changing diapers. I'm re-reading "Getting Things Done" in preparation for the planning and tactical phase, which I hope to cheat a little and get done pre 1/1. Six weeks. Thoughts, suggestions, experiences? |

So far, my favorite thing about being a dad is carrying her upstairs after she is asleep. Bathtime is a close second. And when she sneezes. |

totally WRONG, except the bit about the hammer.
| Your Birthdate: July 7 | You are an island. You don't need anyone else to make you happy. And though you see yourself as a loner, people are drawn to you. Deep and sensitive, you tend to impress others with your insights. You also tend to be psychic - so listen to that inner voice!
Your strength: Your self sufficiency
Your weakness: You despise authority
Your power color: Maroon
Your power symbol: Hammer
Your power month: July |

| Update |
[Oct. 22nd, 2005|09:32 am] |
Rainy and cold Saturday morning. Dela got apples and yogurt for first breakfast. Now she's napping and Katie and I are downstairs listening to an NPR report on labor relations in the auto industry. Katie enjoys NPR as long as Nina Totenberg isn't on, which confuses me, as I like Nina Totenberg and I'm really a big fan of the Supreme Court, but Katie probably knows something I don't. We go day to day around here. Systems are gradually being developed, mostly around diaper changing, trash storage and removal, laundry, food preparation... Nothing revolutionary, but there's a world of difference between processes for two adults and processes for two adults and an infant. We got her through 4 weeks without any major troubles. Why does that feel like a massive accomplishment? World Series starts tonight... Go Astros! What a historic pitching display this is going to be!! It's always a little sad, though, because in the back of my mind I know that when the series is over, there won't be another pitch thrown for the achingly long, dark, 6 months of Winter. |

I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I Love my Treo 650. I'm one happy gadgeteer. Everything I need, and it WORKS! It's designed like a tool, not a toy, so all the necessary work-related commands are front and center. It's a joy. Treo 650. Joy. |

I now have a Treo 650 on the kitchen table, synching my email relentlessly and carelessly blasting bluetooth effecting 6d4+2 damage in all directions with brutal caprice. If anyone wants my new cell phone number, write and ask. I'm eager to share. Also SMS and I can accept pictures and videos and all. Plus, probably, other things I haven't set up yet. |

Sorry to have been quiet. Have been focused on nursing Dela. Katie is fine, Dela is going to be a little while getting back on her feet. Thanks for all the notes of support. |

| Home with Katie |
[Sep. 25th, 2005|06:51 pm] |
We have arrived. Managed to escape the hospital and survive I-95 to make it home. Dela has had a nap and we are beginning to get some of our first patterns learned. Breastfeeding is going well. Dela is sore, but no real complications. Katie seems more strong than she should be for her size. I'll post more pictures tonight. Thanks for all the kind thoughts. |
